When fossils are discovered in the North Sea, they have to be processed. To prevent their decay and ensure their preservation, the fossils undergo a desalination process. Initially, they are submerged in continuously replenished freshwater for a period of six weeks. Afterwards, they are gradually dried and treated with a museum-grade conservation layer. This not only safeguards the fossils, but also enhances their inherent, breathtaking colours. The entire procedure typically spans two to three months for completion.
